The famous Swiss painter, graphic artist and sculptor Hans Erni became popular for his numerous lithographs and murals which he designed for various private and public institutions. He created murals for the Red Cross, the UN and the UNESCO and contributed to the design of Swiss and Liechtenstein stamps, medals and banknotes. After studying art in Lucerne he traveled within Europe and spent some time in Paris and Berlin, where he maintained close contact with well-known artists such as Pablo Picasso or Georges Braque. Various assignments outside of Switzerland contributed to international success and great popularity among the general public.
