1843 British Colonialism Commerce Military Laws India Africa Illustrated MAP
Robert Montgomery Martin was an Anglo-Irish author and civil servant who served as Colonial Treasurer of Hong Kong from 1844 to 1845. He was a founding member of the Statistical Society of London, the Colonial Society, and the East India Association. He is chiefly remembered for his work ‘The Indian Empire’ and ‘History of British Colonies.’ His book ‘History of British Colonies’ was meant as a complete history of all of Britain’s colonial expansion to include the area, agriculture, commerce, governments, and militaries of colonies.
This 1843 edition contains an abridgement from Colonial Office records and is illustrated including a full fold out map.
"Abridgement but with extensive additional, largely statistical material from Colonial Office records. Preface dated January 1839, hence New Zealand quite properly still omitted"—(Bagnall).
