Description
Artist: ANONYMOUS Size: 19 3/4 x 30 1/8 in./50.2 x 76.4 cm Strobridge Litho., Cincinnati Written by L. Frank Baum in 1900, The Wizard of Oz quickly captured the minds of readers all around the world. Two years later, it was reinterpreted as a 'musical extravaganza,' the plot differing from the book dramatically throughout the show. One scene in particular -- the moment when the Good Witch sends snow to wither the poppies which put Dorothy to sleep -- actually originated in this play and would later be incorporated into the famous film version of the story. While virtually unknown today, this staging was exceptionally popular during its time, selling out and getting outstanding reviews wherever it was performed.
