Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine set of two hand-built redware pottery vessels with highly-burnished surfaces boasting warm vermilion hues. The cup has a wide pedestal base, expanding walls, a shallow basin, and a thin rim, and the exterior is decorated with several negative-resist rings in a dark-brown hue. The larger bowl has a round but stable base, tall walls, a deep basin, and a thick rim, with a decorative exterior register of solid and openwork X-form motifs. Size of largest (bowl): 8" W x 4.6" H (20.3 cm x 11.7 cm).

Condition
Both vessels have small chips to bases and rims, with fading to original pigmentation and decorative motifs, and light abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
