Description
17th-18th century AD. A gold finger ring formed as two clasped hands with scrolled cuffs and ribbed hoop, heart-shaped plaque to the reverse. See Oman, C.C. British Rings 800-1914, London, 1974. 5.27 grams, 21.22 mm overall, 18.20mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7, Europe 14.98, Japan 14) (3/4"). From a private collection; formed 1965-1975. The form of the ring imitates the medieval clasped-hands betrothal ring (e.g. Oman items 54(C,D)) but its manufacture and the heart-shaped plaque are innovations.
