Description
Pedro Quetglas known as "Xam"' (Majorca, 1915-2001); Kitchen Cubist Still Life on Burlap. Age related wear. Height 29 1/2 inches (74.93 cm.) X width 21 1/2 inches (54.61 cm.). NOTE: Majorcan artist Pedro Quetglas Ferrer “XAM” studied at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artisticos, Palma, and at the School of Arts and Crafts, Munich. In 1951 Ferrer held his first solo exhibition at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Palma. His art has been shown in international centers of Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, Paris and New York. Throughout his artistic career he received several medals and prizes at the Salon d’Automne, Paris (1951 and 1966), Grabado Alfredo Guido (1953) and at the Bienal Hispanoamericana. In 1980 Ferrer was appointed professor at the Academia de Belles Arts de Sant Sebastia de Palma. In 1989 a large exhibition of his lifetime in the arts was held in Sa Llotja de Palma. One of Ferrer’s major commissions was his stained glass works for la Capilla de La Inmaculada. A majority of his art, comprising well over 200 woodcuts is located at the Museu de Mallorca.
