Description
These early Austrian cavalry pistols were often carried by Americans throughout the late colonial period. This example with rudimentary steel furniture, heavy barrel with flattened rib for sighting, oversized lock with bridled frizzen and swan neck cock. Barrel proof towards breech with "Brown" over "T" and "S". Steel sideplate with two side nails. Figured walnut full stock with steel band at muzzle and no provision for ramrod. Barrel has been shortened by an inch. Spurred steel buttcap. CONDITION: Well worn throughout. Stock with one significant split at the tail of the lock. Butt with fine worn patina throughout. Action defective, bore is fair. An attractive early military flintlock pistol that possibly saw use in America.
