A VERY IMPORTANT JIZHOU TWIN PHOENIX AND FLORAL TEA BOWL Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1127-1279)Diameter 4 3/4 inches across and 2 1/8 inches tall (14 1/2 cm)The piece is decorated with a pair of phoenixes and two plum blossom on the interior sides, a plum blossom motif sits at the bottom center of the bowl- The decorations sit against a brown flecked molted glaze which works up to to a golden brown rim, the exterior is covered in a dark blackish-brown glaze -the base has a tapering unglazed buff foot rim-Piece does not present with any chips cracks or noted repairs-one noted small rough blemish to top exterior rim which looks original to making Provenance: From the estate of Dora Sphar Saddle river New Jersey-A large portion of the Asian collection was purchased in 1978 from the estate of actress Ann Southern-also included in that auction was the estate of Edwin Pabst-Current Estate owner had original documentation from auction-Piece was consigned to be sold at Christies in the 1980s but estate owner decided to decline and keep it in collection-----ALL PACKING & SHIPPING IS OUTSOURCED.Purchases can be picked up at our Ho-ho-kus gallery by appointment only- Please call 201-921-6600.
