Undated but attribution as an early 1888 to 1900 book with amazing tooled cover and phenomenal black and white illustrations. Gustave Dore was a prolific engraver, artist, illustrator, and sculptor, working primarily as a wood and steel engraver. He produced over 100,000 sketches in his lifetime. Originally published in 1667, Paradise Lost recounts the Fall of Man; it also tells the stories of the rebellion and punishment of Satan and the creation of Adam and Eve. Published by Cassell Publishing Company and featuring an introduction by Robert Vaughan, D.D. Minor corner wear, some interior spotting, firm binding. Inscription by original owner. Material: paper.
