Workshop of Jacob Jordaens (Flemish 1593-1678)- ''Company in a Loggia''- oil on canvas (relined), several repaired tears and areas of in-painting. A preliminary drawing for this painting is documented in R. A. d'Hulst -''Jordaens Drawings, v. II, Bruessels: Arcade, 1974. p. 524-525. ''This drawing of a young woman playing the lute, seated on a balustrade and facing the spectator, is a copy by an unknown hand, probably from the studio. It corresponds to the lute-playing woman in 'Company in a Loggia' a painting whose whereabouts are at present unknown; it was formerly in the W. Conwall collection (sold at Brussels, 19 December, 1924, lot 69) and afterwards belonged to the firm of Van Diemen, Berlin (cf. Art News, May 4, 1929, reproduced as 'On The Balcony' by Jacob Jordaens. 55 3/4 x 52"
