[PRESIDENTS, FIRST LADIES.] Archive of 17 photographs and letters signed by six Presidents (Truman, Johnson, Carter, Reagan, G. H. W. Bush, Clinton) and three First Ladies (Taft, Roosevelt, Truman). All in very good condition.

Wallace, May 22, 1931, Washington, D.C. (14 months after death of William Howard Taft), 1 p., 3.125" x 2.25"; two newspaper clippings regarding Memorial to Titanic Victims and Boy Scout Placing Flag on William Howard Taft's Grave at Arlington National Cemetery. "When I first came to the White House and college groups asked me to act as patroness for fund raising benefits I was very glad to accept. So many requests came to me later that I have had to establish a rule not to act as patroness for any fund raising campaigns save for national groups and those charitable ones in which I have always been interested."

"Hearing from the ‘Irish' really made my birthday complete. I find as the years accumulate, so does sentiment. And when I reflect all the really good things that have come my way, you are two of them. One of my happiest memories is celebrating your wedding anniversary high in the skies over Senegal. I don't think I ever heard a more moving speech than the one you made that day. All America should be glad it has people of your deep feeling to speak for it in Congress. Rooney served as a Congressman from New York from 1944 to 1974.
