Description
Original vintage advertising poster: Austin 1300. The British People's Car. This poster features a colour photograph showing a couple of Austin 1300 (a three-doors yellow model on the left and a five-doors green model on the right) parked in a street lined up with terraced brick houses, and photographed on a (very British) rainy day. The Austin 1300, manufactured by British Leyland, was part of a range of small family cars, originally built by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and, later, British Leyland, under the name BMC ADO16 (Amalgamated Drawing Office project number 16). Launched in 1962, the BMC 1100/1300 was a logical and highly successful expansion of the Mini, using much of its running gear, and combining it with perfectly-judged Pininfarina styling, to become a British institution, and the country’s best-selling car for much of the 1960s and into the ’70s. British Leyland was an automotive engineering and manufacturing conglomerate formed in the United Kingdom in 1968 as British Leyland Motor Corporation Ltd (BLMC), following the merger of Leyland Motors and British Motor Holdings. It was partly nationalised in 1975, when the UK government created a holding company called British Leyland, later BL, in 1978. It incorporated much of the British-owned motor vehicle industry, which constituted 40 percent of the UK car market, with roots going back to 1895. lithographed in England by The Nuffield Press Limited, Oxford. Good condition, small tear in the centre of the upper half, faint creases and marks. Country: UK, year of printing: 1972, designer: Unknown, size (cm): 63.5x89 (Horizontal)
