Europe (Italy), Eastern Europe (Russia), Central Asia (Kashmir, India), ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A group of six finely-decorated wood and papier mache items. First are two Kashmir papier mache vessels, one a green bowl with the depiction of a hunting scene, and a light blue lidded box with two white birds sitting in a tree. Second is a red-colored Italian papier mache lidded box, with an oval body, shallow interior, with floral and musical instrument designs on the lid. Next are two black Fedoskino lidded boxes, both with depictions of horses pulling sleds and riders. Last is a small Russian icon depicting the Dormition of the Virgin, displayed in egg tempera and gold leaf on a thin metal sheet, and nailed to a rectangular wooden panel. A fine ensemble for any collection! Size (largest box): 5.8" W (14.7 cm); size (bowl): 4.3" W (10.9 cm); size (icon): 4.5" W x 3.55" H (11.4 cm x 9 cm).
