**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A petite, hollow terracotta head depicting an elderly man which was once part of a larger figure. The man displays an expressive countenance comprised of recessed eyes, a bulbous nose, slightly-parted lips, and slender ears, all beneath a brimmed hat. Stylized wrinkles across his brow indicate his advanced age, and the figure perhaps represented an important male elder in society. Remains of the original white pigmentation are visible. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 1.625" H (4.1 cm); 2.625" H (6.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Houston, Texas, USA collection; ex-Bonhams London Antiquities Auction, 8 May, 2013, part of lot 205; ex-Jil Danon collection, Paris, France, formed between the 1940s and 1990
