Description
Eretz Israeli summer/scout camp in Poland, 1929: lot of 5x picture postcards from the town of Kremenets (Krzemieniec) serving as letters and momentos by the sender between 25-30 July 1929; 2 are messages in Russian posted to an addressee via an Eastern Express post box, in Haifa & 3x are "momentos of the trip of the scout camp to Bereza [the administrative region in which this town was located]" written in Hebrew + the Hebrew name of the site depicted on the postcard. Although Jews comprised a third of the town's inhabitants none of the images relate to them, nevertheless in pre-WWII Poland there were many Zionist youth movements and training camps to prepare them for settlement in Palestine. The scouts who visited may also have been former emigres who left in 1924, in the 'Grabski Aliya' (the Fourth Aliya), following anti-Semitic economic measures undertaken by the Polish Prime Minister/Finance Minister.
