Description
Watercolor on paper 18 1/2 x 11 1/2 in. (sight), 25 1/4 x 18 1/4 in. (framed). Born in Kiev, Russia in 1903, impressionist artist Selma Gubin was known for her paintings of industrial scenes, labor and figure genre and plein air landscapes. Gubin studied fine art at Hunter College and joined the Art Students League in 1924 where she was influenced by Raphael Soyer, Philip Evergood and Chaim Gross.Gubin exhibited widely and was a member of the New York Artists Equity Association and National Association of Women Artists. Her work is held in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, New York Historical Society Museum and Library and Rockland Community College in New York.
