Yosemite. Gelatin silver print. Artist's embossed stamp lower right. Measures 9.75 in. high x 7.5 in. wide, (with frame 14.25 in. high x 11.25 in. wide).
Willard Worden began taking photographs while serving in the Spanish-American and Philippine-American Wars. He later opened his first gallery near the Presidio in Cow Hollow in San Francisco. Within a few years, he compiled hundreds of views of the Bay Area and as far away as Yosemite National Park. At the turn of the century, he was one of the city's pre-eminent fine art photographers and was both an exhibitor and one of the official photographers of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the 1915 world’s fair held in San Francisco.
