Federico Castellon - painter, printmaker, illustrator and sculptor - was a self-taught artist born in Spain. His family immigrated to the United States when he was a young boy. At the age of eighteen, he met Diego Rivera, who helped jumpstart his career by not only securing him a fellowship to study in Europe, but by introducing him to the direct of Weyhe Gallery, Carl Zigrosser, who gave Castellon his first solo exhibition. Castellon would go on to win numerous awards, including a second Guggenheim Fellowship, and to be shown in numerous exhibitions.
