Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1889-1953) was born on September 1, 1889 in Okayama, Japan. He immigrated to the United States in 1906 and studied at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design. He later moved to New York and studied at the National Academy and the Art Students League under Kenneth Hayes Miller. He built a home in Woodstock, NY and taught at the Art Students League and the Woodstock school.
