Description
Wari / Huari, from ancient Peru, ca. 700 AD. Two fine figural, polychromed pottery vessels, each depicting a human face in relief on the spout, wearing a multi-strand necklace and hands to sides. The vessels with bulbous-body and two loop holes at shoulder. Red-brown ground with cream and dark brown slips. 6-3/8"H and 4-1/2"H.
Provenance: The smaller is Ex-Israeli collection, acquired in the 1960s. Ex. Jean-Eugene Lions collection, Geneva. Sweet examples from a rare culture.
