Nixon TLS to former VP of Pan American Airways re: his recent trip to China
Typed Letter Signed, "RN," as President, 1 page, 7" x 9" on White House letterhead, Washington, October 5, 1971 to Samuel F. Pryor, former vice president of Pan American Airways concerning his historic visit to China. Expected mailing folds, light soiling at top and right margins with a very minor tear at right margin not affecting text, else fine condition.
Nixon writes in full:
"Rose Mary [Woods] has called to my attention your kind letter and the transcript of the radio interview you gave shortly after my July 15 announcement that I would visit the People's Republic of China. Needless to say, I was delighted to learn that we have been thinking along similar lines and I greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness in letting me know of your support for our efforts."
Nixon's correspondent, Samuel F. Pryor II (1898-1985) was an early aviation industrialist and longtime associate of Charles A. Lindbergh. He served as vice president of Pan American Airways from 1941 to 1965 and served as a campaign manager for Wendell Wilkie's 1940 presidential campaign.
