Description
A GROUP OF FOUR NATIVE AMERICAN WOVEN BASKETS, 20TH CENTURY, the smallest of pine needles by Adele K. Williams, retaining original tag from the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation; a circular bowl form with red dyed needles; a bluster vase form with sawtooth flared mouth, and a covered box with flower and butterfly motif, largest diameter: 6 1/4". Note: Property from the Charles Irwin Jones Family Collection were acquired directly from Native American tribes by Charles Irwin Jones between 1900 and 1940 during his field work as a civil engineer for the AT&SF (Santa Fe) Railway. Jones took personal interest in the history and anthropology of the region, writing a few articles on indigenous life and New Mexico history, including “The Navajo Indian and His Ways" for “The New Age Magazine" in 1913. Provenance: Property from the Charles Irwin Jones Family Collection.
Condition
Some fading, mild bends, occasional expected losses, dust debris, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
