AN INDONESIAN TRIBAL CARVED HARDWOOD DUGOUT CANOE PADDLE, ASMAT PEOPLES, WEST IRIAN, NEW GUINEA, CIRCA 1973, the flat shaped triangular paddle blade with a rounded tip on a flaring body above a cylindrical pole. Height: 61" Width: 5 1/2" Provenance: This Asmat wood paddle is one of a number of purchases made by the Seldens during their 1973 trip to Indonesia and surrounding regions. A handwritten note dated November 23, 1973 by Marjorie Selden includes this paddle and is mentioned again in another letter dated a few days later on November 27, 1973 from the Wentworth Hotel, indicating the paddle was
Condition
Good condition, normal water residue marks, age cracks, normal small worn chips on edge, surface buildup, marks and scratches, dings.
