In these paintings her strong use of lighting and backlighting was evident especially with morning light glowing through fog, steam rising from the back of what horses, foliage, horse blankets, horses manes and tails and other transparent things found in the back stretch. She also captured the sparkle of light on wet surfaces including wet race horses being bathed with reflective puddles and sparkling dew on the grass. In order to capture these various effects the artist experimented with and utilized a complex variety of painting techniques that she developed specifically to convey a convincing sense of light and atmosphere.During this time she also did many portraits of champion race horses. Some of her prominent clients included TV actor Jack Klugman, ABC Sports commentator Jim McKay and Thomas Mellon Evans owner of Derby and Preakness winner, Pleasant Colony, and Buckland Farms. She also was commissioned to do paintings for race courses including the home of the Preakness, Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, Maryland and Great Meadows Race Course, Virginia, Delaware Park Race Course. Piper Publishing commissioned her to do two oil horse portrait paintings for the large limited edition collector's item book, Notable North American Thoroughbreds.
