Founded in 1830, Christofle is famed for its elegant, traditional styling and legendary quality. As "Silversmith to the King," Christofle has been France's premier supplier of fine silver since the days of Louis-Philippe. In 1842, Christofle was authorized to stamp its hallmark on tableware and flatware to guarantee the quality of its products. This is another extremely high quality set in a very classic Christofle (Cardeilhac) pattern and in excellent condition. The silver pieces are even more stunning than can be reflected by the photographs. The set is offered at an extraordinarily low price and is extremely good value for money. Each silver piece contains the French governments Head of the Minerva-1 Hallmark, signifying a minimum of 950 sterling silver along with the Christofle (Cardeilhac) manufacturer's silver hallmark. The Mother-of-Pearl handled dessert knives with vermeil (gold plated sterling silver) blades also contain the French Government's Head of the Minerva-1 Hallmark in addition to the Maison Cardeilhac Hallmark (successor to Ernst Cardeilhac) which operated at 91 rue de Rivoli in Paris from 1904 to 1920.Â
