La forma de la condecoración es de una cruz en color rojo con brazos lobulados, dentro de la cual hay un círculo en el que se ubica la silueta de una figura coronada, que simboliza al rey Alfonso X El Sabio. La figura sostiene un águila en la mano derecha y una esfera con una cruz encima, que simboliza en mundo. Alrededor del soberano, una franja blanca circular muestra en letras doradas la inscripción Alfonso X El Sabio, Rey de Castilla y León. La túnica del rey muestra el escudo con los símbolos de Castilla y León. Por la parte trasera, el círculo muestra la silueta de un ave de color rojo con un halo dorado, probablemente la paloma que simboliza al Espíritu Santo. El ave se asienta sobre una esfera azul, trasunto del orbe. Sobre ella distinguimos una inscripción en alto relieve: ALTIORA PETO, lema que significa Aspiro a cosas superiores. La cruz pende de una anilla que la sujeta a una suntuosa lazada de moaré rojo, que por su parte trasera cuenta con un broche destinado a colgar la condecoración del pecho.
