[28] pp. Ink manuscript. 20x16.5 cm (8x6½"), original patterned wrappers..

Charming early 19th century copybook for penmanship exercises and general erudition. The three water colors are decorative borders for passages "On the Parliament" and "On Washington," with one yet to be filled out. Among other features are geographical descriptions of New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts, and a list of states, their capitals and population (17 of them) plus "Mississippi Territory." Two leaves seem to have been excised at some time, whether before or after use as a copybook is not known.

Condition

Rubbing, edgewear and some creasing to wrappers; very good.
