δ Beerbohm (Max) Clement Scott, pen and black ink, watercolour, over traces of graphite, signed 'Max' upper right, on laid paper presented on early mount with wash borderlines, 174 x 153 mm. (6 7/8 x 6 in), minor surface dirt, under glass, circa 1897.

⁂ Clement Scott (1841-1904) was the dramatic critic and travel writer for the Daily Telegraph. Hart-Davis records that Beerbohm executed four caricatures of Scott, with the present work being the earliest.
