Description
A Chinese lock-shaped white jade plaque cut out with Hehe Erxian and a pair of bats dating from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The plaque has a wooden stand.
Dimensions are: 2 1/2 inches tall X 3 1/4 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: It is in good condition.
Provenance: From the estate of Mr. & Mrs. Martinson in northern Minnesota. Mr. Martinson's grandparents Andrew and Anna Martinson went to China in 1903 and Mr. Andrew Martinson died in China in 1913; the couple's son, Mr. Harold Martinson, our collector's father, was born in China, as was Mr. Martinson himself in 1931. The present Mr. & Mrs. Martinson later served as missionaries to Hong Kong in the 1960s.
