Zvi Raphaeli (Israeli 1924-2005) Jerusalem Market Scene, oil on canvas, signed lower right and left, framed. 17 x 23 in. 29 i. x 34 in. as framed Condition: very good with no damage or repairZvi Raphaeli, painter and rabbi, was born in Egypt in 1924, and died in 2005. He was educated in Paris from age 3. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. He was a member of the French resistance during WW II. He lived in Israel and the USA. He is known for his works of art in varied media, including oil and watercolor, depicting street scenes in Israel, scenes from Jewish life and festivities, and occasionally floral still life subjects. Style: His primary medium of painting was oil on canvas, with a prominent impasto technique, that brings depth to the subject. In the 70's, Raphaeli made his stamp as an art critic as well, providing his critique to various other Israeli artists like Moshe Givati at the nationwide 'Summer ‘70 Exhibition' held at the Goldman Gallery, Haifa. **Askart and Wikipedia
