This lovely example of a low brow china head doll has a high hairstyle and very rosy cheeks. She was made by Hertwig and dates to the 1890s. She measures 18" tall and has a cloth body with kid leather arms made to look like gloves. She has a number 4 incised on the back of her shoulder plate. She wears a fabulous antique two piece dress of purple and blue silk. Her antique underthings are all cotton and include drawers, chemise, and two petticoats (one long and one short). She wears lacy cotton socks and leather shoes. The numbered paper label on her arm was part of the inventory system of a previous owner, who collected dolls in the 1920s and '30s. A beautiful early low brow in a wonderful costume!

The dress has some melted and fading but is overall in good condition for its age. The doll's lower legs and arms may have been replaced by a previous owner, since they appear to be a little newer than the rest of her. She has some wear to her hair but no chips or cracks.
