Description
Tang dynasty, c. 9th-10th Century, of 'Samarra' type, a shallow lipped bowl covered with a thick clear glaze having a pale greenish tint inside and out showing several 'tear' marks on the underside, the broad, solid foot ring resembling a jade bi-disc with recessed center left unglazed, revealing a white porcelain body. Sold with a copy of Rosemary Scott's Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art, A Guide to the Collection, London, 1989, where a very similar example is illustrated on p. 37 (no. 19)
