Description
19th-21st century AD. A mixed group of composition impressions from seals, mainly heraldic and military types; the circular buff-coloured impression was made from an English 13th century seal, one of the so-called ‘love & loyalty’ seals – the legend in Anglo-French, as is usual at this period, is a common one, a rhyming couplet which reads IE SV SEL DAMOVR LEL [I am a seal of loyal love]. 15.9 grams total, 13-38mm (1/2 - 1 1/2"). Property of a lady; from the collection of Simon Bendall (Byzantine Numismatist, 1937-2019"). [12, No Reserve]
