William Ropp earned the soubriquet “the shadow sculptor” for placing his subjects in complete darkness and using long exposures and the illumination of an ancient flashlight to create haunting psychological portraits. He is the subject of William Ropp. 20 Years of Photography written by Alexander Scholz and published by Bliesdorf in 2009.
