California Gold Rush Advertising Card For "The A1 Extreme Clipper Ship FRANKLIN"
c. July 1862, California Gold Rush Period, Colorful Clipper Ship "FRANKLIN," Advertising Card, New York, Fine.
California Gold Rush Period Advertising Card measures about 4" x 6.5" and was printed by Nesbitt & Co. Printers, N.Y., in reflective bold Red, Blue and Silver on a heavy white coated card stock. Some loss to the card on the center edge right and the lower right corner. Some soiling consistent with age, prior mounting traces on the blank reverse. The text of this card reads:
"Coleman's California Line - For San Francisco. - Immediate Dispatch. First Class Clippers. - The A 1 Extreme Clipper Ship Franklin. - Murray, Commander, - Is now rapidly completing her loading at Pier 15 E.R. - Foot of Wall Street. - This fine vessel rates strictly A No. 1, always delivers her cargoes in fine condition, is a fast sailer, and will have quick dispatch. For balance of Freight, apply to - Wm. T. Coleman & Co., - 161 Pearl St. Near Wall. - Agents in San Francisco, Messrs. Wm. T. Coleman & Co."
A small printed paper attachment to the blank rear of this Card denotes the ship and its launch date as being: "Franklin July 1862." A handsome Portrait of Benjamin Franklin at center and bold printed headers are eye catching in design.
