Joe Montana Autographed 1979 Cotton Bowl Championship Notre Dame. In acrylic case 7 1/2"x 7 1/2"x11 3/4. Weight 3 pds 4 oz. The Bowl Classic, popularly called the Chicken Soup Game, was a football game played between the University of Notre Dame and the University of Houston.The game took place on an unusually cold day in Dallas, Texas, played the day after the city's worst ice storm in thirty years. Quarterback Joe Montana, who had the flu, led Notre Dame to a come-from-behind victory in the second half after eating a bowl of chicken soup. The Irish outscored the Cougars 23–0 in the fourth quarter.PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. Part of a very large and extensive 60 year sports, comic, celebrity, and baseball card collection that we have been auctioning for the estate.
