"Throughout the first fifteen years [1897-1912] of their correspondence, Bennett wrote long, detailed critiques of Wells's books" and that "less than six months before Bennett's death Wells wrote him, "Arnold...you are the best friend I've ever had" (Arnold Bennet and H.G. Wells... Wilson 1960 p. 18, 20). (Wear to cover and spine; front hinge starting).
