Description
1796 1st ed Enquiry Concerning Political Justice Godwin ANARCHY Socialism
The first modern defense of anarchism! (De George)
‘Enquiry Concerning Political Justice’ is a book on English philosophy focusing the politics and the development of anarchism. Written by William Godwin in 1793, this work was written after Godwin was heavily influenced by Thomas Paine’s ‘Rights of Man’. Godwin showed many characteristics of radical thought, pushing the ideas humans desire freedom from institutions – including both marital and political confinements.
According to the ‘Printing and the Mind of Man’, ‘Enquiry’
“was one of the earliest, the clearest, and most absolute theoretical expressions of socialist and anarchist doctrines. Godwin believed that the motives of all human action were subject to reason, that reason taught benevolence, and that therefore all rational creatures could live in harmony without laws and institutions.”
This second volume is from the first American edition published in Philadelphia in 1796.
