Neil Armstrong Signed Spectacular Limited Edition Lithograph

Limited edition 19" x 29" lithograph of Neil Armstrong in his flight suit prior to the Apollo 11 mission, numbered 100/1000, boldly signed "Neil Armstong" in pencil with a large 3" signature by history's first moonwalker. Also signed in pencil by the artist, Paul Calle, beneath his pre-printed signature. In fine condition. This handsome, highly desirable item is the only individual print edition that Armstrong signed and remains among the most sought-after of all NASA-related lithographs.

Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin formed the American crew that landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC. Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface six hours and 39 minutes later on July 21 at 02:56 UTC; Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later. This spectacular limited edition lithograph was not only the only individual print edition that Armstrong signed, but it was also rendered by the only artist (Paul Calle) present with the Apollo 11 crew the morning of July 16, 1969. Calle also created the painting that later became the 10c 1969 First Man on the Moon stamp design for the US Postal Service, Scott # C76.

Paul Calle Biography

Paul Calle was one of the first eight artists chosen by NASA in 1962 to document the American Space Program’s Project Mercury. In a Space Art career spanning more than 40 years, Calle has covered Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle Missions. Paul was the only artist present with the Apollo XI crew of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins the morning of July 16. 1969 as they prepared for their historic launch to the Moon. His sketches of the Apollo 11 crew breakfast and Suiting Up stand as a visual record of the activities of the morning of July 16, 1969.

Perhaps one of Calle's most well known Space paintings is the 10c 1969 First Man on the Moon stamp design for the US Postal Service, scott # C76. This iconic image of Neil Armstrong stepping on the surface of the Moon is remembered worldwide. The engraved plates for the postage stamp were carried to the surface of the Moon by the Apollo XI astronauts.
