This lot consists of a framed oil painting on board. Resplendent with color and interlocking forms, this piece is a brilliant Expressionist meditation a la Frederick Kann (Czech, 1886-1965). A hand-painted inscription at lower right reads, "F. Kann". Bold abstractions define the visual space. The artist's style hints at the influence of other modernists, such as Mondrian, Delaunay, and Kandinsky. This charming piece would be a highlight to any collector's gallery. Overall measures approximately 19.5" x 23". Image sight approximately 15.5" x 19.5".

Reverse side of piece features a roughly hand-painted inscription, largely illegible, which includes the phrase "F. KANN 1952" at bottom.

Frederick Kann (Czech, 1886-1965) was born in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia. He received his art training in both Prague and Munich. Upon moving to Paris, where he practiced and taught art, Kann joined the Abstraction-Creation group, whose ranks included Theo van Doesburg, Joan Miro, and Alexander Calder. Kann moved to the United States in the late 1930s, where he taught art at the Kansas City Art Institute. He had strong ties to New York and Los Angeles, where he gave a number of successful exhibitions. The latter city would ultimately become Kann's home and the place he died in 1965.
