This lot consists of a mixed media (colored pencil, watercolor) illustration on paper, attributed to modern cartoon pop artist Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997). Hand inscription at right reads, "Roy Lichtenstein". This Pop Art image depicts an idealized nude woman. A unique and enigmatic Pop Art drawing in the style for which Lichtenstein is so well known. This striking piece would be a great addition to any modern art collector's gallery. Unframed piece measures approximately 10" x 8".

Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) was an American pop artist. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, James Rosenquist, and others, Lichtenstein became a leading figure in the new direction of contemporary art. His work defined the premise of pop art through parody. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions that documented while they parodied, often in a splashy, tongue-in-cheek manner. His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting."

Whaam! and Drowning Girl are generally regarded as Lichtenstein's most famous works, with Oh, Jeff...I Love You, Too...But... arguably third. Drowning Girl, Whaam! and Look Mickey are regarded as his most influential works. His most expensive piece is Masterpiece, which was sold for $165 million in January 2017.
