Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kuba peoples, Nkutshu subgroup, ca. early 20th century CE. A fine dagger attached to a tapering wooden handle with a flared butt end capped with a weighted copper casting. The iron blade has a pair of projecting lateral prongs, a raised central midrib on both faces, and a diamond-shaped head, with the entire blade being surrounded by sharpened edges. Daggers like this were traditionally used in ceremonial contexts despite being created in a manner commensurate with combat. Size: 4.4" W x 11.5" H (11.2 cm x 29.2 cm); 12.6" H (32 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Blade reattached to handle with light adhesive residue along attachment area. Minor abrasions to copper casting, handle, and blade, with slight bending to overall form of blade. Nice patina to wood and copper components.
