Description
Three tokens and medals from the collection of Ike's longtime military aide Robert L. Schulz, displayed in a 4 x 5.75 x 1 block of Lucite atop a wooden base, commemorating President Eisenhower's trip to "Brazil, South America, Brasilia - Rio de Janeiro - Sao Paulo, February, 1960." The largest is a jugate medal depicting President Eisenhower with Brazilian President Juscelino Kubitschek. Below are a keychain medallion with the presidential seal on one side, engraved "South America, Agradecido, D.D.E., 1960" on the other; and a typical Ike travel token, one side reading "With Appreciation From," with his facsimile signature below, and the other reading, "South America, 1960." Also includes a bold ink signature, "Dwight D. Eisenhower," on a 6.75 x 2 slip torn from the close of a letter. While in Brazil from February 23–26, 1960, President Eisenhower met with President Juscelino Kubitschek, who sought foreign capital investment to develop Brazil's economy, and addressed the Brazilian Congress. The South American trip then took Eisenhower to Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.
