**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East/the Levant, Canaan, Later Bronze Age, ca. 1200 BCE. A flat cast bronze blade from a large dagger or a short sword, with a rivet opening on the tang for attachment to a handle in the classic Canaanite style. This piece would be wonderful for a fan of Biblical Archaeology. It is in the style of weapons from Hazor, which is described in the Book of Joshua as the head of the Canaanite city-states, and the site of one of Joshua's most important victories in the Israelites conquest of the Promised Land. Archaeological expeditions from 1955 to 1958 revealed Middle and Late Bronze age temples, palaces, and fortifications, as well as a range of artifacts including cuneiform tablets, ivory objects, a basalt statue of a god, and bronze items like this one. Size: 1.6" W x 14.25" H (4.1 cm x 36.2 cm); 14.45" H (36.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Wear on surface commensurate with age, including a few small nicks from the sides. The surface has a lightly encrusted, pale green patina. Form nicely preserved.
