DESCRIPTION: Asian bronze oil lamp with pink slag glass open top shade. Base decorated with foo lion. Pedestal decorated with cranes. Open top shade with six panel spaces and six circular disks. Marked on wick controls "A. A. Vantine & Co 877 Broadway, NY". PROVENANCE: From the collection of Edward Greey. Greey spent six years on a naval expedition in Asia larning the art and culture of the region. In 1868 he moved to New York and opened an art gallery that is credited with with creating a new appreciation for Japanese art in America. From family through descent. MEASUREMENTS: 28" high without chimney. CONDITION: Patina to bronze. Losses to one slag glass panel.
