Item Details
Description
Attributed Charles Stanislas Matifat (French, Paris, founded 1820), mid 19th century. Bronze kylix form vase or urn in the Assyrian taste, having a relief cast band with campaign scene of warriors, chariots and palm trees, the stem with a relief band of female musicians above a cut-work border, the urn with cast dore lamassu handles. Apparently unmarked. Approx.h. 15", w. 15", d. 11". Note: An example of this vase was shown at the 1851 London Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations (Crystal Palace Exhibition), and can be seen on page 50 of, "The Art Journal: The Illustrated Catalogue of the Industry of Nations 1851". Additionally, a photograph of the Matifat exhibit can be found in the British Royal collection RCIN 2800066.
