Description
Guilloche silver clock with Russian marks, c.1920. A very interesting and unusual piece, trying to be from the House of Faberge, but I don't believe it to be from that firm.Still, a gorgeous clock, working with exceptional enamel. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////This clock is sterling silver, and comes with the original box it was sold it, that has stamps on the upper part of the box for Faberge. The problem with calling this clock Faberge is the marks are very strange. There is a mark or hallmark or stamp in the silver easel back that has the initials of Michel Perchin, who was an important enamel master in the firm of Faberge, along with a double headed eagle. When Faberge marked their items in the 1920 time period, the marks looked different. These marks bear a strong similarity to English silver hallmarks, as does the guilloche enamel work.Even though the rulers depicted are the Romanov family, the way they are shown is similar again to the way the English show their rulers, from Buckingham Palace.Again a beautiful work of art and clock, but most likely a fake Faberge work from the 1920's, made in London to cater to the demand for genuine Faberge items at the time. 3.5" wide.
