Description
Dian Culture, 279-109 BC. A flat openwork bronze plaque depicting two male dancers each with a sword on his belt in vigorous pose holding up a cup or bowl in each hand, treading on a snake which bites the leg of the right dancer. See Song, L. Chinese Bronze Ware, Cambridge, 2011, p.129. 172 grams, 15.5cm (6"). Property of a London doctor; previously in the collection of her husband by inheritance; formerly acquired during travels in the Far East during the 1920s.
