Description
Schoolgirl needlework sampler, most likely English, dated December 18, 1838 and wrought by Bethiah Cook, with central castle type structure surrounded by trees, animals, and flowers with floral border. Verse reads "Be to others kind and true, As youd have others be to you, And neither do nor say to man, Whatever you would not take again". Condition - Staining to linen ground with losses to perimeter due to removal from old backing. 17 1/2"H x 16" W.
