Description
French Bisque Head Doll 100 Year Provenance
Hand painted, stamped FRANCE and 9, papier mache or early composition body with movable wooden joints, 20.5 inches long, appears to be human hair, glass eyes, three layer lace dress, slip and or night gown. Accompanied by a charming 1949 newspaper article picturing an 11 year-old girl with the doll tracing the gift from an aunt back to the girl's grandmother Mrs. Genevieve O'Hara of Scranton, Pennsylvania at the turn of the century. In the article the doll is identified as German but we are reasonably certain this is the doll even though the doll is French. Also in the article the doll is identified as a Queen Louise which we understand to be a model made by Armand Marseille however the Queen Louise doll we compared online had Queen Louise in script where this one has France so we do not know if it is a Queen Louise. The article is in an envelope that lists relatives that may not match up to the individuals in the article but again, this is how it came from the estate.
